Conceived and created in 1991 by Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell as a farewell tour for his band, Lollapalooza ran annually until 1997, and was revived in 2003. From its inception through 1997, and its revival in 2003, the festival toured North America. In 2004, the festival organizers decided to expand the dates to two days per city, however poor ticket sales forced the 2004 tour to be cancelled. In 2005, Farrell and the William Morris Agency partnered up with Austin, Texas-based company Capital Sports Entertainment and retooled it into its current format as a weekend destination festival in Grant Park, Chicago, Illinois.

At The Drive-In: In their first collaboration since the break-up, the members of At The Drive-in, (now split into The Mars Volta and Sparta) have handpicked a collection of their greatest hits, BBC Session, B-sides, re-mixes, and covers of The Smiths and Pink Floyd tunes which spans their entire career (1995-2001)
Toro Y Moi: While initially helmed a prominent chillwave artist, Toro y Moi is branching out from the generic label to play the music that speaks to him, regardless of classification. However, is talent in the medium of electronic music is glaringly apparent, as his tour dates and debut album brought in praise from electronic newcomers to veteran critics. Toro y Moi's latest album, Underneath the Pine, features a more instrumental sound that is set to take the burgeoning artist to the top on his own terms. This fresh, new sound and expanded setup can be heard on Toro y Moi's 2011 tour dates around North and South America.
While Chazwick Bundick is known best for his electronic music, he played in a couple of indie rock bands throughout high school. He became interested in electronic music during college after meeting Ernest Greene, better known by his stage name, Washed Out. Toro y Moi's debut album, Causers of This, featured a chillwave sound with a hip hop style that was heralded by critics. The albums' popularity brought Toro y Moi his first tour dates, but he soon found the songs hard to perform live. This is part of the reason for the change in sound on his latest album, Underneath the Pine, which features more of a progressive rock sound.
Fans can hear Toro y Moi's brand new sound on his many tour dates in 2011. After playing some of the summer's final music festival, the artist will head out on a US tour featuring support from Unknown Mortal Orchestra beginning on September 9. That tour ends on October 15, after which Toro y Moi will perform a brief tour of South America in the beginning of November. Toro y Moi's 2011 tour dates end on December 9, leaving fans plenty of time to buy tickets for this highly anticipated tour.
Bombay Bicycle Club: Bombay Bicycle Club are young, but they're not dumb. This is a considered and sensitive series of engulfing, melodic dynamic shifts that serge somewhere between Stephen Malkmus' strums and a lot of Bloc Party's, too. However, the real charm is in the youth and vitality of this enterprise. BBC are only 16 years old and have just completed their GCSE's. They share la meme ecole and year-group as fellow rockfeedback favourites Cajun Dance Party and write tender, bittersweet songs which get torn to pieces live - Rockfeedback.com
Yes, there is certainly something about these kids which will set them apart from your everymen, and you feel it could be Jack Steadman's deep, confident and impassioned vocal, in which he comes across like a tripped out Casablancas or a pissed off Paul Banks. Or it could just be their sheer youthful passion and energy. Or their already impressive roster of songs. Or their future sing-along hit and set closer The Hill, a tune full of tightly wound guitar riffs, impressive drumming and one of those magical choruses that locks itself in your head, which tonight almost blew the roof off the pub. One thing's for sure - the post A-Level summer is in for a treat. -Musicomh.com
Boasting feral guitars, the unique vocals of Jack Steadman and a line up so youthful they make the arctic monkeys look like pensioners, Bombay Bicycle Club are the hottest band to come from North london for quite some time. Not only have Bombay Bicycle been together for less than a year, but the band have only just taken their gcse's. Don't be decieved those, there's a lifetime of experience in these glorius tunes. - NME
They were very impressive never mind theyre all just 16, they have a great sound and a hell of a lot of talent certainly ones to watch - Bandwagon.co.uk
GLORIOUS WAS THE FEELING upon first listening to this wonderful 6-track demo from the BBC. The demo flows like an album, opening with the wonderfully haunting What If, whereupon youre introduced to the vulnerable, quivering voice of front man Jack Steadman, which gives the lyrics added poignancy in the same way that the trick works for Anthony and the Johnsons. It has delicate melodies as well as urgent build-ups and bridges; its well crafted and a delight to listen to. Where the hell did these guys come from? North London actually, and theyre only 16. - backbeatbands.co.uk
These upstarts are just 16, but they can play their instruments better than most and singer Jack Steadman has a passionate, tremulous voice that will take them places. - THE BIG ISSUE
Florence and The Machine: Florence + the Machine's sole release, "Lungs", has taken the music world by storm. Florence's booming voice is well complimented by the Machine's rock infused melodies and their marriage make for a rousing live experience. Florence + the Machine concert dates are currently scheduled on the final leg of their "Lungs" tour in which they will be visiting US venues throughout July, 2011.
Florence + The Machine is the stage name of British singer Florence Welch and her back-up band of session musicians. After generating much buzz with performances in London, the band released their debut album, "Lungs" in 2009. It peaked at #1 on the UK charts and was an immediate success. The album's first official release, "Kiss with a Fist" was featured on the soundtrack to "Jennifer's Body". Subsequent singles off the album include "Dog Day's of Summer", "Drumming Song" and "You've Got The Love".
Florence + The Machine gained traction in the United States with performances on David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmell. The band's single, "Dog Days Are Over" was re-released and became their biggest US hit to-date. In 2009, Florence + The Machine concert dates were booked on the Cosmic Love Tour which served as the group's first headlining tour. What began as an eleven-date United Kingdom Tour in 2009 evolved into a worldwide outing that has culminated in 18 international legs and continues throughout 2011 in North America.
In 2011, Florence + The Machine's cache rose with several high profile performances which generated a lot of buzz in the US. In February, Florence replaced Dido at the 83rd Academy Awards to perform A.R. Rahman's original song "If I Rise", which was nominated for the Best Original Song at the ceremony. Florence also teamed up with Martina McBride, Christina Aguilera, and Mary J. Blige to perform a tribute to Aretha Franklin during the opening performance at the Grammy Awards. Florence, who suffers from anxiety, rose to the occasion and proved that she can perform on the world's largest platforms alongside the world's greatest talents and hold her own.
More recently, Florence + The Machine have announced that they are back in the studio working on the sophomore follow-up to their highly successful debut. They hope to release new material by the end of the year. For those fans waiting in anticipation, Florence + The Machine tour dates are scheduled on the final leg of the "Cosmic Love" tour which will be in North America throughout the summer. In addition, Florence + The Machine concert dates are scheduled at various stops along U2's summer tour. Their debut album has been one of the UK's hottest sellers for the past two years now, they have won numerous awards, and have performed at the world's most coveted stages. Come out and see Florence, the queen of rock-soul, and the Machine when they are in your area. Use Eventful as your source for Florence + The Machine tour dates and venue information.
Kaskade: “Kaskade’s signature sound is as unmistakable as it is beautiful; a combination of dewy female vocals, tough electronic underpinnings, and memorable melodies.” -- Billboard
The New York Times may have called him the “new face of electronic dance music” in a recent profile, but Ryan Raddon, known as Kaskade, has been in the trenches of the EDM scene as an original recording artist and in-demand DJ for more than a decade. He has released seven studio albums, including his latest, Fire & Ice, scored nine Top 10 hits on Billboard’s Hot Dance Airplay Chart, created chart-topping remixes for everyone from Lady Gaga to Beyoncé, appeared at all the major summer festivals, and has performed between 150 and 200 headlining shows a year for the last 10 years, building a name for himself as an innovator of the EDM scene as we know it today, which has opened doors for the likes of Deadmau5, Tiesto, Skrillex and more. In doing so, he has helped to lay the groundwork for a titanic musical and cultural shift: a post-rock EDM revolution that has captured the imagination of a new generation of music lovers across North America
Kaskade has been named America’s No. 1 DJ by DJ Times and Pioneer DJ. In 2012, he will appear at this year’s Coachella, for which he has a special performance planned, and will hit the road in May for his biggest headlining tour ever — 50-plus North American shows in just over three months. His own live show is a jaw-dropping spectacle that finds him performing in front of an 80-foot wide, three-stories tall LED screen that blares images synched with the music while strobe lights scan the crowd. Kaskade’s belief in the transformative power of dance music to uplift thousands of people at once has had a significant effect on the U.S. scene. His ground-breaking double residency in Las Vegas at the Encore Beach Club (which had not even been built when he signed on) and Marquee has elevated the city’s status as a premiere club-going destination on par with London, Berlin, and Ibiza, is another testament to his influence.
Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, Raddon was heavily influenced by New Wave bands like The Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen, and The Smiths that ignited his love for melody and lyrics and was strongly impacted by the house music scene that developed in Chicago. Following stints spinning throughout college and in A&R at OM Records, he began working on his own music, which includes multiple singles, EPs, and remixes, as well as the albums: his most recent 2011 release Fire & Ice – which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Dance Chart, No. 3 on the Independent Albums chart, and No. 17 on the Top 200 Albums chart, while the iTunes version debuted at No. 4 on the overall album chart. The Fire disc contains ten original songs geared firmly toward the dancefloor, while on the Ice disc, Kaskade delivers the perfect down-tempo post-club experience by remixing all ten songs. Both discs showcase the musical versatility tat has characterized his work ever since he began writing his own songs. This album was preceded by It’s You, It’s Me (2003), In the Moment (2004), The Calm (2006), Here & Now (2006), Love Mysterious (2006), Strobelite Seduction (2008), Dynasty (2010) and Dance.Love (2010).
Childish Gambino: If Childish Gambino sounds like two random names smashed together by a nickname generator…well it is. It’s also the stage name of actor/comedian/writer/DJ/rapper/awesome guy Donald Glover. You might know him better as Troy from the NBC comedy Community, but he’s also been tearing up tour dates all over the US this past year with his unique, slightly nerdy brand of hip hop. While you might think of Childish Gambino as another actor with an ego, thinking he can do it all, you’re dead wrong.
In fact, much of Glover’s life and career might surprise a lot of people. And no, he’s not related to Danny Glover. He was raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, alongside two paternal siblings and many foster children taken in by his parents. He got a degree in Dramatic Writing from NYU, which helped him in his comedy career, but also found himself drawn to music. His rap career started off as another joke, with songs bordering parodies and on-stage gimmicks on concert dates that were meant to entertain more than impress. Even his stage name was randomly spit out of a Wu-Tang Clan name generator. But as Childish Gambino began releasing mixtapes like I Am Just A Rapper and independent albums like Culdesac a poignant and clever voice began to emerge that Glover slowly embraced. His first studio album, Camp, roared onto the hip-hop scene in 2011, and both fans and critics who had dismissed him as a rapping comedian took notice.
As fans eagerly anticipate new mixtapes, albums, and movies from this talented artist, many are flocking to Childish Gambino’s tour dates all over the country. To try and see for yourself whether Danny Glover is a more talented comedian or rapper, check out his schedule and prepare to be baffled.
The Big Pink: An English electro-rock duo comprising multi-instrumentalists Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell. The duo signed to the 4AD label in 2009, and won the prestigious NME Philip Hall Radar Award for best new act. To date, they have released five singles, with their debut album A Brief History of Love released in September 2009.
Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell started making music as The Big Pink in 2007, taking their name from the debut album by The Band. Furze used to play guitar for Alec Empire and run the record label Hate Channel with Cordell. Cordell (son of Denny Cordell and brother of Tarka Cordell) had also been releasing records through his own label Merok Records, which featured early noise rock releases by Klaxons, Titus Andronicus, and Crystal Castles. After joining forces in mid-2007, the band issued their first single "Too Young to Love" on 7" vinyl in October 2008 on the House Anxiety label. The single was limited to 500 copies worldwide, and features a homoerotic photograph by Dennis Cooper as its cover. Similarly, a limited edition 12" single for "Too Young to Love" released only in Japan features more of Cooper's photography as its cover.
The Big Pink signed with British record label 4AD in February 2009. On 25 February 2009, The Big Pink won the prestigious Philip Hall Radar Award for best new act at the NME Shockwave Awards. The duo were presented the award by James Allan and Caroline McKay of Glasvegas, who had won the award in 2008. In April, 4AD issued the duo's first single for the label, "Velvet," which Pitchfork Media described as "undeniably immense, but it's a tribute to the Big Pink's skill and maturity that it still manages to sound intimate", and awarded the track a 7 out of 10 rating. The single was again produced by the band and mixed by Alan Moulder. A 7-minute remix of "Velvet" by Gang Gang Dance followed as an online-streaming single. The Big Pink provided a cover of "Lovesong" for The Cure tribute album Pictures of You: A Tribute to Godlike Geniuses The Cure, which was made available with the 25 February 2009 issue of NME. Following the releases, the duo opened for TV on the Radio in Europe before embarking on their first headlining UK tour. A second single on 4AD, the non-album track "Stop the World", was released as a limited edition 7" single on 29 June 2009. It was co-produced with Paul Epworth.
A Brief History Of Love The Big Pink's debut album A Brief History of Love was released on 14 September 2009, the fourth single "Dominos" having been released a week before. The band produced the album themselves at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, and it was mixed by Rich Costey. Cordell told BBC 6 Music that the album encompasses "every different aspect of love... The good, the bad, the boring, the exciting, the dreams, the nightmares, the whole thing." Nationwide tours of Europe, Japan, and the United States occurred August through the end of 2009, with dates in Australia and a second North American tour set for spring 2010. They also supported Muse on their UK arena tour in November, and in turn, provided a remix of Muse's song "Undisclosed Desires," which was made available on the single released on 16 November 2009. On 24 February 2010, "Dominos" won Best Track at the NME Awards. The Big Pink appeared at the 2010 Coachella Festival in April and once again opened for Muse at London's Wembley Stadium on 10 September 2010.
Future This In an interview with NME, Robbie Furze noted a strong hip-hop influence for the recording of the band's second album. However, he later retracted this statement regarding the band's musical direction in a further NME interview in October 2011 in which he wishes he hadn't made such a claim. He also stated that the band has approached Nick Launay and Dave Fridmann as possible producers, and added "I think we've got our heart set on Alan Moulder to mix it." The band's second album Future This is due for release on 13 January 2012. The first single from the album was also announced as "Stay Gold" which was released on 11 October.
Jack White: An American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, multi-instrumentalist and occasional actor. He was best known as the guitarist, pianist and lead vocalist of The White Stripes until they split in February 2011, as well as a member of The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather.
He is ranked #70 on Rolling Stone's list of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time". White's popular and critical success with The White Stripes enabled him to collaborate as a solo artist with other renowned musicians, such as Beck, The Rolling Stones, Jeff Beck, Alicia Keys, Bob Dylan, Electric Six, Insane Clown Posse, and Loretta Lynn, whose 2004 album Van Lear Rose he produced and performed on. In 2006, White became a founding member of the rock band The Raconteurs. In 2009, he became a founding member and drummer of his third commercially successful group, The Dead Weather. He was awarded the title of "Nashville Music City Ambassador" by the Nashville mayor Karl Dean in 2011. White is set to release his debut solo album Blunderbuss on April 24, 2012.
White formed The White Stripes in 1997, along with Meg White, The band began its career as part of the Michigan garage rock underground music scene, playing with local bands such as Bantam Rooster, The Dirtbombs, The Paybacks, Rocket 455, and The Henchmen, among others. In 1998, The White Stripes were signed to Italy Records, a small and independent Detroit-based garage punk label, by Dave Buick. The band released its self-titled debut album in 1999, and a year later the album was followed up by the cult classic De Stijl. The album eventually peaked at #38 in Billboard Magazine's Independent Albums when the band had established their popularity. While performing and in music videos, Jack and Meg are very recognisable visually, as they dress only in red, white, and black.
In 2001 the band released White Blood Cells. The album's stripped-down garage rock sound drew critical acclaim in the UK and soon afterward in the US, making The White Stripes one of the more acclaimed bands of 2002. The album was followed up in 2003 by the commercially and critically successful Elephant. Allmusic wrote that the album "sounds even more pissed-off, paranoid and stunning than its predecessor ... darker and more difficult than White Blood Cells. " The album's first single,"Seven Nation Army," was the band's most successful.
The band's fifth album, Get Behind Me Satan, was recorded in White's own home and marked a change in the band's musical direction, with piano-driven melodies and experimentation with marimba and a more rhythm-based guitar playing by White. The band's sixth album Icky Thump, released in 2007, entered the UK Albums Chart at number one and debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. The album's sound also included more punk, garage and blues influences than its predecessor. In late 2007, the band announced the cancellation of 18 tour dates due to Meg White's acute anxiety problems.
White had revealed plans to release a seventh, as of yet untitled album in the summer of 2009. However, this has yet to happen. The band also made their first live appearance since Meg's anxiety problems in September 2007 on the final episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien on February 20, 2009.
A documentary, The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights, about the band's 2007 tour, in which they played a gig in every Canadian province and territory, appeared in the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.
In July 2007, The White Stripes made history by playing the shortest concert ever only playing one note, in St John's, Newfoundland. They played a full show later that night at the Mile One Centre in downtown St. John's.
On February 2, 2011, it was reported on the main page of whitestripes.com that the duo has decided to part ways. White stated that it was not due to health issues or artistic differences but there were a "myriad of reasons."
White formed The Raconteurs in 2005 along with Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler. The origin of the band was the song 'Steady, As She Goes' which White wrote along with Benson. This inspired them to create a full band with the addition of Lawrence and Keeler. The band came together in Detroit during 2005 and, for the remainder of the year, recorded when time allowed. The band's debut album Broken Boy Soldiers was recorded at Benson's home in Detroit. The band set out on tour to support the album, including eight dates as the opening act for Bob Dylan. The group's second album, Consolers of the Lonely, and its first single, "Salute Your Solution", simultaneously in 2008. The album received a Grammy nomination.
In early 2009, Jack White formed a new group called The Dead Weather with The Kills frontwoman Alison Mosshart. White takes drum and vocal duties, while The Raconteurs bassist Jack Lawrence and Queens of the Stone Age keyboardist and guitarist Dean Fertita round the four piece out.
The group debuted a handful of new tracks on March 11, 2009 in Nashville from their debut album Horehound, which came out July 13, 2009 in Europe and July 14, 2009 in North America, on White's Third Man Records label.
On October 16, 2009, Mosshart confirmed that the second album was "halfway done." The first single "Die By The Drop" was released on March 30, 2010. The new album, Sea of Cowards was released on May 7 in Ireland, then on May 11, 2010, in the U.S. and May 10 in the United Kingdom, and again, on White's Third Man Records.
It was rumored that in 2003 White collaborated on Electric Six's song "Danger! High Voltage." Both he and the Electric Six denied this, and the vocal work was credited officially to John S O'Leary. However, a recent radio interview with Tim Shaw on Kerrang! 105.2 in the UK had Electric Six lead singer Dick Valentine talking openly about White singing on this song as well as speculating on the amount of money he was paid ($60,000). Also, a Q magazine article stated that Jack White did in fact work with Electric Six on the song "Gay Bar."
In 2008, White collaborated with Alicia Keys on the song "Another Way to Die," the theme song for the James Bond film Quantum of Solace.
He performed five songs for the Cold Mountain soundtrack; "Sittin' On Top Of The World," "Wayfaring Stranger," "Never Far Away," "Christmas Time Soon Will Be Over" and "Great High Mountain."
In 2009, Jack White was featured in It Might Get Loud, a film in which he, Jimmy Page, and The Edge come together to discuss the electric guitar and each artist's different playing methods. White's first solo single, "Fly Farm Blues," was written and recorded in 10 minutes during the filming of the movie, in August 2009. The single went on sale as a 7-inch vinyl record from Third Man Records and as a digital single available through iTunes on August 11.
In November 2010, producer Danger Mouse announced that White has been recruited for his collaboration with Daniele Luppi entitled Rome along with Norah Jones. White provided vocals to three songs on the album: "The Rose with the Broken Neck," "Two Against One" and "The World."
The song "You Know That I Know," finished and performed by White, was featured on "The Lost Notebooks of Hank Williams," released on October 4th 2011.
On January 30, 2012 White released the single "Love Interruption". This is the first single from his first solo album, Blunderbuss, that is to be released on April 24, 2012. On March 3, 2012, he appeared on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest, with Lindsay Lohan hosting.
He'll be playing selected dates in the summer, with festivals such as Radio 1's Hackney Weekend, Sasquatch! Music Festival, Fuji Rock Festival in Japan and one of the biggest festivals in the world, Rock Werchter in Belgium.
Sigur Rós: Sigur Rós (Sigur ros.ogg [ˈsɪːɣʏr rouːs] (help·info)) is an Icelandic post-rock band with melodic, classical, and minimalist elements. The band is known for its ethereal sound and lead singer Jónsi Birgisson's falsetto voice.
Jón Þór (Jónsi) Birgisson (guitar and vocals), Georg Hólm (bass) and Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson (drums) formed the group in Reykjavík in August 1994. Their name is Icelandic wordplay: While the individual words Sigur and Rós mean, respectively, Victory and Rose, "Victory Rose" wouldn't be grammatically correct. The name is thus taken from Jónsi's younger sister Sigurrós, who was born the same day as the band was formed, and then split into two words. They soon won a record deal with the local Sugarcubes-owned record label, Bad Taste. In 1997, they released Von (pronounced [vɔːn], meaning "hope") and in 1998 a remix collection named Von brigði (IPA: [vɔːn ˈprɪɣðɪ]). The name is Icelandic wordplay: Vonbrigði means "disappointment", but Von brigði means "variations on Von". The band was joined by Kjartan Sveinsson on keyboards in 1998. He is the only member of Sigur Rós with musical training, and therefore has contributed most of the orchestral and string arrangements for their later work.

The Gaslight Anthem: The Gaslight Anthem is an American rock band from New Brunswick, New Jersey, formed in 2006. The band consists of Brian Fallon (lead vocals, guitar), Alex Rosamilia (guitar, backing vocals), Alex Levine (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Benny Horowitz (drums, percussion).
The band released their debut album, Sink or Swim, on XOXO Records in May 2007, and their second album, The '59 Sound, on SideOneDummy Records in August 2008. The band's third album, American Slang, was released on June 15, 2010. Their fourth album, Handwritten, was released on July 24, 2012, on Mercury Records.
Brian Fallon was in a number of bands prior to The Gaslight Anthem, most lately This Charming Man. The band went through a number of line-up changes, to the point where the band consisted of Fallon, Mike Volpe, Benny Horowitz and Alex Levine. At this stage, the band renamed themselves to The Gaslight Anthem, due to a change in direction. After this, Volpe left and Alex Rosamilia joined, and the current line-up of The Gaslight Anthem was formed.
White Rabbits: At first, it's easy to mistake the White Rabbits for just another set of New York City dance-rock hipsters in the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah tradition, but a second look reveals a quirkier and more rewarding aesthetic. A sextet featuring two drummers and a piano player, the White Rabbits refer to their music as "honky tonk calypso," and their cheerful blend of calypso, reggae and ska rhythms, plus secondhand music hall influences and big pop hooks, strongly recalls vintage Madness circa "Our House" and the moodier, more experimental side of the Specials and Fun Boy Three, via Ted Leo & the Pharmacists. The White Rabbits began in Columbia, MO, in 2004, when college students Greg Roberts and Stephen Patterson bonded while working at a local record store. Moving to New York in 2005, Roberts (vocals and guitar) and Patterson (vocals, piano and percussion) fleshed out the White Rabbits with guitarist Alex Even, bassist Adam Russell and dual drummers Matt Clark and Jamie Levinson. Signing with Say Hey Records in the U.S. and Young Turks Records in Great Britain, the White Rabbits connected with hot New York indie producer Chris Zane (Asobi Seksu, Les Savy Fav) to record their debut album Fort Nightly. Preceded by the dramatic first single "The Plot," Fort Nightly was released in the summer of 2007.
